Hypnotherapy Guide To Training

Guide to Levels of Training

The unique three level structure of the course provides a flexible, work based training programme allowing students to utilize clinical hypnosis throughout their studies. The Foundation Course prides itself on its student centered approach to teaching, placing a strong emphasis on continual assessment and supervision throughout training to ensure that students are taught to the highest ethical standards. It is also our belief that students studying clinical hypnosis should be trained to employ a wide variety of eclectic therapeutic skills that can be tailored towards each individual patient.

On completion of Level 1, students will have acquired a variety of skills to induce and deepen hypnotic states in others. They will be able to develop a basic therapeutic framework for the treatment of certain common problems, such as helping others to stop smoking, enhancing self- confidence, relieving stress and developing a healthy life style. Successful attainment of Level 1 is the minimum requirement to progress to Level 2 – known as the Practitioner Diploma Course.  Although Level 1 is a course in its own right it ideally should be seen as The Foundation Course which preceeds The Practitioner Diploma (Level 2). With this in mind students will be required to confirm in writing that they are fully aware/understand prior to confirming attendance that it is The Practitioner Diploma (Level 2) that allows them to be a  : Qualified Practitioner of Hypnosis.

On successful completion of Level 2 /Practitioner Course, students will be awarded a diploma in clinical hypnosis with the designating letters DCHyp. They will be deemed competent and qualified to practice clinical hypnotherapy in a professional capacity and to treat patients presenting with a variety of psychological and physiological problems. Individuals will also be eligible and encouraged to apply for GHR membership.

Approach to Training

The principle method of training is the Context Dependent Training format (CDT). The CDT theory states that we can learn and recall information most easily and effectively when new information is placed in a pre existing context, and that learning is consolidated by practical experience. Therefore the demonstration of hypnotherapeutic techniques and practical exercises to enhance therapeutic skills, augmented with clinical case histories and life examples, are integral elements of the training programme.

There is a high practical content within the course, necessary to gain patient centered skills. Theoretical information is presented in a modern easily assimilated format together with course notes, although additional note taking is mandatory. Scripts will be provided for initial training – students will be encouraged during training to compose and utilize both metaphors/scripts of their own style –   of which the content will be checked to confirm understanding of the process and suitability of content.

The combination of theoretical and practical aspects makes this course stimulating, fascinating and very enjoyable. The courses are designed to take into account the particular needs and circumstances of mature students and professional people. Therefore, all courses centre around an intensive study system where relevant information is taught in the classroom with additional reading / study / assignments/tasking as standard, as well as some homework.

Recommended literature and practical homework assignments are set prior to / between / during classroom training days to augment studies. We have found this training approach to be the most effective for gaining confidence and proficiency in the practical and theoretical aspects. Modular programmes are part of the training.
